The Weekly Sharpener #75 - Creative Cuts

"What truths lie within these ads?"

Hey Fam 👋,

Welcome to the #3 Creative Cuts Edition of the Weekly Sharpener where you'll get three of our favorite ads in the game 🔥.

We'll break down why we love them with the goal that you'll have some actionable takeaways on how to improve your creatives and grow your business. 🚀

We've partnered with the Ad Library 📚 team to make this a great experience for you. 💣

Now Johnluke and I will get to it 👇

You can either check out the episode if you want to spend some time really digging into creative with us or read the TLDL below!

Girlfriend Collective💘

What Johnluke thinks: I love the beginning. Great hook & intro clip, but I believe the quality drops as the video continues & cuts off in a weird way.

Would love to see an added CTA screen to the end of it.

What Chase thinks: The music is incredible. (Yes, I know you're looking at a gif.) Love how they focus on the texture of the material in a close-up and its flexibility.

The text burned in is too small + long to be ready that quickly, so I don't even really try. The ending feels abrupt and unfinished. Would love a CTA.

Cuts🥩

What Johnluke thinks: The positioning is solid here, but not everyone can just wear a t-shirt to the office, but it could just be the “idea” of it.

I think they could show a few of their more professional style clothing for the in-between look, it could make for a better 2nd half of the ad.

What Chase thinks: Hook is awesome, but wish it would have started a second later so what he says would land. Feel like it very seamlessly transitions from narrative to product/offer without pushing too much product.

Love that it reiterates "Your new work attire" in the third scene but the WHITE on WHITE text makes two of those words harder to read. Like this one a lot.

Biggest note: clarity is the key, if you want "new work attire" to get across you need to make sure that is the focus of the ad. It feels like to 2 places that are trying to do that don't allow the consumer the opportunity to do consume that message easily.

Cometeer ☕️

What Johnluke thinks: The overall production is the perfect hybrid between “UGC” and “Production style” anyone could film this same style video, and that’s what I like about it.

Cometeer should hand this video to any influencer they work with as a quick description of the product & good example of how to put it into content. Simple, and very well done.

What Chase thinks: The message of education stands on its own without text overlays or sound. That's impressive. I think each scene, like each line of copy is supposed to do, gets you to keep watching.

When you're dealing with a product that changes long-held behavior patterns you have to make sure it cuts through. The stark white backgrounds + high production value, make you stop what you're doing.

I really dig this ad - clear education/value + content level to support it. Don't think this style of education with only UGC would have the same affect.
